Okay guys, I have no luck getting stuff put together:
1) I can't install Visual Studio 2010 because only 2012 is available.
2) After installing 2012, mysql won't detect it. I can open Visual Studio, run it, operate it, make a new file, but even after restarting, mysql installation still has the visual studio section unchecked and says it can't detect it.
3) The guide is written for older versions of software that are not available to download.

1) You can still get 2010...its just not as easy to find now.
2) MySQL has no need to detect Visual Studio. I'm not even sure why it tries unless its trying to install headers directly to the compiler directories
3) You may have to ask whasf to make you an account on the wiki because of some spam issues we've had, but we would be happy to have you update it.

I'll be updating the wiki to represent VS2012 instructions this week, as well as a few other software versions that are out of date.

Visual Studio 2012 has a different install, you are prompted to install one of 4 things, instead of everything. Choose Visual C++, you don't need Visual Basic, Visual C#, or the other one which escapes me at the moment.

Old topic but it's the correct one...

On the Server setup wiki page, the link for Navicat Lite does not work...seems that the page or download is no longer available. I setup my first PC using the 1 month free trial version of Navicat for MySQL, knowing that I would be setting everything up on another computer at a later date & would hopefully find a free & safe version of Lite by then. Does anyone know where to get Navicat Lite now from a safe source...all of the websites that I am finding seem shady & I don't trust them. I would like to avoid paying $100 for the full version of Navicat that I am currently using, but don't want to be without it.

Is there a guide describing how to update the server database without losing characters data?
