Nasomi Legacy FFXI server

Post by nasomi » Sun Jul 28, 2013 6:57 pm

Server: nasomi.com
Website: http://www.nasomi.com/
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/nasomi
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nasomi

Classic cop-era ffxi, no wipes and regular maintenance. Work in progress but up and stable. Any questions feel free to ask. Over 2000 characters created thus far, and 30-50 players on at any given time.

Exp Rate: 1x
Move Rate: 1x
Everything: 1x

All retail stats. It's a blank slate for long lasting fun. Not a "rush to 75 and grind sky/dynamis/etc".

Come in, enjoy, we're having lots of fun.

Maintenance! Total down time should be no more than 15 minutes. Server broadcast will provide updated information.

This weekend the network is being adjusted. A website and forums are going up, game server is being migrated to a virtual machine.

Server Structure:
Athena | Windows Server 2012 Enterprise | (2) Xeon 5160 Dual Core CPU@3.0ghz, 8gb Ram, (6) 10krpm 36gb SAS HDD in Raid5
-DHCP Role
-RRAS Role
-DNS Role
Orion | Windows Server 2012 Enterprise w/Hyper-V| (2) Xeon E5405 Quad core CPU@2ghz, 16gb ram, (5) 180gb Intel Enterprise SSD in raid5
-VM1 - Game Server
Odin | Windows Server 2012 Enterprise w/Hyper-V| (2) Xeon L5320 Quad Core CPU@1.83ghz, 16gb ram, (3) 10krpm 73gb SAS HDD in Raid5
-VM1 - Login Server
-VM2 - Search Server
-VM3 - Web Server
-VM4 - Backup Game Server

Nightly backup's of the servers will be performed by scripts around 4am. Server will be updated to an actual TLD which will also be used to access the web page, forums, and downloads.

There will be server porn when I pull the servers off the rack this weekend to reconfigure.

Server is rocking and rolling! @99% up-time with auto-starter, we have a few 75's already and people working through CoP and ToAU stories.

Servers are backed up twice a day and the backup is restored to a fall-over server, so even in a worst case scenario with complete hardware failure and a complete roll-back, it's only going back 12 hours.

There's a new 24port gbit switch with QoS for packet prioritizing that will be here tomorrow, as well as some new 4 port gigabit ethernet cards that will ease up network congestion during backup times.

The new switch will allow 2 gigabit connections to each of the game servers and 4 gigabit connections to the file server. Since all backup's are being performed to high speed low latency SSD's, network would get slowed during peak hours.

In the works is a 32tb high speed SAN with raid6 which should allow for complete system backups every 6 hours. Stay tuned!

This is my dream server. I can play on it for the next month on a semi regular basis but then I wont be back on until late January :( Just to clarify....this will only have content through COP? So no blue mages, time portals, scholars, etc?

Not really "99% uptime" if the server restarts via auto-restarter! :P

I enabled ToAU areas as it was requested by the current playerbase and no one opposed it. It's not really used, just to get access to DNC I believe.

I know. I'm just waiting for a vanilla, ROZ, and COP only server. For me, FFXI was at its best when COP was finished. Everything from vanilla to the end of COP was about taking time, effort, and team work to accomplish goals. Since COP FFXI did a 360 and has increasingly been about fast leveling, instances, being solo friendly, taking as little time as possible, etc, which is what people want.......... I'll get off my soap box now.

I can only play sporadically right now anyways. I'll have more regular hours in February.

I know what you mean. The fact that I had level 75's, ninja's, summoners, etc in the first 2 months. I don't thing ToAU pushed that much for fast leveling, or soloing. Personally I never solo'd in xi past level 10. Everything was party oriented and I loved that.

We have kicked off our Starlight Celebration! Moogles are handing out treats, be sure to talk to one for a special surprise!

Finished the network hardware update. 3 Poweredge 1950's with 16gb ram and x5450 cpu's are running the game in a failover cluster. Each machine has 4gbps network bandwidth to the shared storage server which has 8gbps network bandwidth. Every 4 hours the entire game server is backed up to a long term storage server.

Failover Cluster
Dell1:
(2) Quad Core x5450 CPUs
16gb DDR2 ECC ram
